SPC, FAO Train Farmers on Food Safety, Reducing Pesticides
26 March 2014: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) convened a training at Koronivia Research Station, Fiji, on food safety and reducing pesticide use in agriculture.
Attended by 14 participants from Fiji, and undertaken using the "training of trainers" method, the training convened from 24-28 March 2014.
It focused on the use of integrated pest management (IPM) techniques that can be used on Brassica crops, such as cabbage, broccoli, lettuce and cauliflower, where pesticides are currently used heavily. The training also prepared participants to conduct Farmer Field School sessions at their respective localities. [SPC Press Release]
