GEF Launches Documentary on Toxic Clean-up Efforts
8 May 2013: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has released a documentary, titled 'Mission: Planet DeTox,' highlighting chemicals and wastes projects in five countries. The projects are funded by the GEF and implemented by the World Bank, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
Through examples in China, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines and Tanzania, the film explores the impacts of local realities on proposed solutions for cleaning up toxic chemicals and waste.
The film was launched at the occasion of the Synergies COPs - the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP 11), the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (RC COP 6), the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP 6) and the second simultaneous extraordinary meetings of the three Conferences of the Parties to the three conventions (ExCOPs 2) - in Geneva, Switzerland.
