GEF, Chemicals and Wastes Secretariats Discuss Access to GEF Funding

GEFFebruary 2014: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Chemicals team, the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Convention Secretariat, the Interim Secretariat for the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) Secretariat, at a recent retreat, agreed to convene a joint meeting of the Conventions' regional centers and GEF Implementing Agencies on accessing GEF funding.

The retreat, held in Glion, Switzerland, from 20-24 January 2014, aimed to improve collaboration between the GEF and Conventions and develop a joint work plan.

Participants also discussed actions necessary to prepare for the entry into force of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the need to expedite development and implementation of mercury projects, and ways to advance programming for the Chemicals and Waste Focal Area for the remaining period of GEF-5 and into GEF-6. [GEF Press Release]
