Caribbean Workshop Agrees to GHS Implementation

SAICM UNITAR17 September 2013: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) held a workshop to raise awareness in the Caribbean region on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling (GHS). The workshop, convened in cooperation with the Government of Jamaica's Ministry of Land, Water, Environment and Climate Change, and the International Labour Organization (ILO), resulted in regional agreement to implement the GHS.

According to UNITAR, the workshop took place in St. Ann, Jamaica, from 3-5 September 2013, and was attended by representatives from 13 Caribbean governments. Participants included government officials from academia, health, labor, standards bureaus, environment and agriculture departments, as well as representatives from public interest organizations. Workshop participants agreed on concrete steps to implement the GHS regionally.
